EFFECT OF AUTOGENOUS, NON-VASCULARIZED PERIOSTEUM TRANSPLANTATION ON ALLOGRAFT BONE GRAFTING FOR LARGE CORTICAL LOAD-BEARING BONE DEFECT – A RABBIT MODEL

Segmental bone allografts are widely used in managing large cortical defects. To improve host-graft union, the effect of allograft on a tibial defect augmented with non-vascularized periosteal flap was studied. Twelve mature Australian white rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) were divided into intervention groups and control group. Bone defects treated segmental wrapped flap. The group transplantation alone. Healing evaluated at end 2nd, 4th, 6th weeks plain radiographs, CT scan, histology. In groups, bony union achieved both ends 4th to weeks. Solid callus encasing whole segments week. group, did not occur even up No formation surrounding segments. Fragmentation telescoping segment medullary cavity host observed. use autogenous, modified healing process maintained integrity allograft.
